As Susan Kathleen Black Foundation instructors become further involved in art education efforts across the country, they become exposed to more teens and young adults who could benefit from participation in SKB’s Dubois workshops each September. The foundation responds by offering scholarships to a select group of young people. SKB pays most of their expenses in Dubois, but the scholarship winners and their families have to get them there.
This year eight students received scholarships through their participation in the 2014 Western Art Academy, at Schreiner University, in Kerrville, Texas. Their fantastically supportive parents have taken care of the logistics, and the 2014 SKB workshop is set to have a significant contingent of young artists. Other scholarship recipients are returning from last year or years previous, bringing the total to 17.
The SKB teen scholars for 2014 are Lawson Belcher, Sadie Burt, Magaly Cantu, Chris Feliciano, Roxolana Krywonos, Anna-Sophia Lagos, Tori Lentz, Kayla Liller, Summer Medran, Kasey Rives, Rebekah Rodriguez, Vanessa Sosa, Madaline Whatley, Korina Wray, Grace Wyka, and Caleb Yarger. A familiar face, David Yarger, will be back this year to serve as Teen Team Director. Ω
