Cable’s painting approach with a focus on his Charles Goodnight Collection

“The Charles Goodnight Story”

About the Artist

As Lee’s work grew and matured over his career, he moved from his traditional use of watercolor to gouache (opaque watercolors) and then to water-based oils as a medium. As a result he feels he is able to create a dynamic image with more control of values and hues, a dimension that is extremely important in fine art.

In a departure from his well-known wildlife themes, Lee expanded his subject matter to include western and historical imagery.

Commissioned to depict The Life & Times of Texas Icon, Charles Goodnight, the resulting drawings and paintings are a permanent collection at the Bryan Museum, Galveston, TX. The popular western movie, Lonesome Dove, is based on Goodnight’s life.
